What is an electronic signature?

An electronic signature is the electronic equivalent of a handwritten signature, a tool that makes it possible to dematerialise the paper-based signing of documents: using the e-signature, you can rapidly sign the most important documents related to your work and private life from your PC or smartphone

Benefits of the Electronic signature

Save time, help our planet

By using digital signatures, private citizens and businesses can considerably streamline the management of their relations with public administrations and enterprises. They will, in fact, have access to a digital tool that will enable them to sign contracts, financial statements, agreements, legal deeds and all kinds of documents in a matter of seconds and without having to print them.

Exploit the full legal value

The IT procedure that makes the use of this digital tool possible is based on cryptographic techniques that allow the recipient to verify the identity of the sender and control the provenance of the document, while also guaranteeing the integrity of the information contained in it.

Types of electronic signature

There are three types of electronic signatures, differentiated by the level of

security and legal protection provided. In particular:

SES – Simple Electronic Signature

The legal value of this solution is similar to that of a simple signature tool, so it provides fewer guarantees as to the integrity and authorship of the document. It is the most common type of e-signature and is recommended for all transactions and communications with a low level of risk, e.g. confidentiality agreements, service contracts, the signing of transport documents or the simplest business transactions.

AES – Advanced Electronic Signature

This guarantees a higher level of security: it provides for the verification of the signatory’s identity by means of in-person or remote recognition, such as the recording of a videoconference session with an operator of the chosen provider. Different types of AES are available, ranging from biometric AES to PIN and OTP-based solutions, which can be used for certain everyday transactions, such as personal contracts.

QES – Qualified Electronic Signature

This guarantees a higher level of security: it provides for the verification of the signatory’s identity by means of in-person or remote recognition, such as the recording of a videoconference session with an operator of the chosen provider. Different types of AES are available, ranging from biometric AES to PIN and OTP-based solutions, which can be used for certain everyday transactions, such as personal contracts.
